Become a Buena Vista Trishaw Pilot!
Two upcoming training opportunities are available:
● Thursday, May 7 at 4:30 p.m.
● Friday, May 15 at 12:00 p.m.
Chaffee County Public Health is inviting Buena Vista community members to take part in a unique and meaningful volunteer opportunity this summer by becoming trained Trishaw pilots. The Trishaw program provides free bike rides for older adults, creating opportunities for fresh air, social connection,
and joyful time outdoors. A trishaw is a specially designed, electric-assist pedicab built with accessibility in mind, featuring a no-step entry and a comfortable front seat for passengers. The pilot rides behind, making it easy to monitor riders’ well-being and engage in conversation, while passengers enjoy unobstructed views of the surrounding landscape. Trained volunteers serve as pilots, offering community members a safe, engaging, and
memorable riding experience. With only two training sessions available this year, interested residents are encouraged to sign up to secure their spot as soon as possible.
The trainings will cover safe operation of the Trishaw, rider experience best practices, and program expectations. No prior experience is required, just a willingness to follow safety protocols, engage with others and enjoy time outdoors. The schedule is flexible and if you’re someone who enjoys biking, volunteering, and connecting with others you’re encouraged to participate!
The program has already seen great success in Salida, and CCPH is excited to bring that same momentum to Buena Vista this summer. Making it happen will depend on a dedicated group of consistent volunteers ready to
step in as Trishaw pilots and help bring these rides to life. Help CCPH get this program going and sign up for one of the trainings! To sign up for a training or learn more, please contact Aubrey at 719-429-8823 or email atamietti@chaffeecounty.org.
